History

FSGS was created in 1958 as the Florida Association of General Surgeons by a small group of central Florida surgeons. Over the past 50 years the society has evolved along with the practice of medicine. To reflect these changes the name was changed in 1991 to the Florida Association of General Surgeons and again in 2007 to the current. The current name accurately reflects the focus on the practice of general surgery.
